09/21/07 - Black & White (Jena 6.2)
And I don’t want to hear another person say “This never happens here!” I found out about this through blogs and e-mails. Here is everywhere. It DOES happen here! That’s the problem!

Ah let me put on my serious face…
Someone asked “What can we do to eliminate racial tensions in today’s society?” and I said
“In order to defeat racial tension in society, just become friends with someone outside your race/comfort zone.
If enough of us did this we’d be all set.”
Racism is bad, everyone says that, sure. But its a whole different story when it isn’t in the news or the topic of an ethnically monogamous dinner conversation, but rather its happeing in your own backyard, around your own daughter, or its your own ass that you feel is somehow being threatened. Only then do you know who’s really racist and who isn’t. When it comes right down to it, I think most people still are, but don’t choose to admit it.
So go outside your comfort zone, why don’t you? I have, several times, and the world feels just a teency bit better to me bc of it.

I can honestly say that race is no issue to me at all. Not even a tiny bit. Mind you, I have lots of friends of different races and after a little while it’s hard to even recognize that they aren’t white cos really, when do you stop to think of it? It should always be like that…I absolutely hate racial prejudice….always been a sore point.
On to your show: I think I liked some of the shows where you ventured out…showed us around something or took us to work with you. It’s time for another field trip.
